“I have support here, there is power in belonging. There is peace for me here, and I am grateful.”
Those are the words of a person who needed help and found it at the YMCA of Central Kentucky. If you were a single mother, raising a child with cerebral palsy and impaired vision and facing all the bills that come with any illness, what would you do? Where would you go to improve your health, relax your mind and refresh your spirit?
Since 1853 , the YMCA of Central Kentucky has been helping people through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body. And, as a community-based, non-profit organization, the YMCA believes that those programs should be available to everyone, regardless of financial status.
That’s what Campaign for Kids is all about. Through this annual fundraising campaign, the YMCA is able to provide financial assistance to those who might otherwise be unable to afford YMCA programs and memberships.
How do you put a price tag on learning to swim, playing soccer or going to camp? What is the dollar value of making friends, building self-esteem and developing character traits such as integrity, respect and responsibility?
As much as we would like to think otherwise, there is a bottom line to everything, which is why the
YMCA distributed over $1 million in financial assistance in 2009
. Those funds created opportunities and opened doors that might otherwise never have existed for many Central Kentucky residents. They exposed children to the YMCA’s core values of caring, honest, respect and responsibility. They promoted families to bond and grow closer by providing a place to spend time together through shared activities. They gave adults a place to maintain their health and feel a sense of community and belonging.
If you share the YMCA’s belief that every kid counts and that everyone deserves a YMCA, please take a moment to make a donation via the link below or by stopping by one of our branches. For more information about Campaign for Kids, please contact Brenda Blakovich at 367-7328.
Thank you for your generous support of the YMCA of Central Kentucky
