Our Mission

To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

The YMCA of Central Kentucky is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization that has been serving our community since 1853. Everything we do is geared toward furthering our mission and we are guided by certain principles. In short, our YMCA:

  • Focuses on the charitable work of building strong kids, strong families and strong communities.

  • Seeks to serve and involve a wide range of individuals and groups.

  • Emphasizes developmental components in its programs and services, while providing recreational resources for youths, adults and families.

  • Stresses preventive programming while providing rehabilitative activities.

  • Is member oriented, with outreach activities and instructional programs as entry points to membership.

  • Prices its services reasonably and provides financial assistance to these in need.

  • Fosters community support -- contributed, volunteer and collaborative.

  • Is founded on Christian principles, which we will actively demonstrate in our facilities and programs.

    YMCA Code of Conduct

Want to participate? Here are the rules:

  • YMCA members must teach the Y’s values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility to others so they know what the values mean.

  • YMCA members must ask others to practice the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility over and over.

  • YMCA members must confront behavior that is inconsistent with the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in a productive way.

  • If you see people behaving inappropriately, take responsibility by asking them to demonstrate our four core values. We are a fellowship of members who should support the actions of one another.

  • YMCA members must consistently model the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility with behavior so others can see the values in action. It is amazing how a friendly game of basketball, or a busy wellness center can turn into frustration. Respect each other by refraining from anger, profanity, or other offensive behavior.

  • YMCA members must celebrate the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility and hold them up as what is right in order to help people grow stronger.

  • YMCA members must consistently affirm, reinforce and reward behaviors that support the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

  • Acknowledge positive behavior with a verbal comment. Praise goes a long way, especially with kids.
