With 350 people in attendance, the Y was one of 22 organizations to honor their top philanthropists at the annual National Philanthropy Day, organized by the Association of Fundraising Professionals. Also honored were this year’s Distinguished Philanthropist, James E. “Ted” Bassett III, and Virginia Newsome received the Youth in Philanthropy Award.
The YMCA of Central Kentucky honored The Kentucky Center for Orthodontics for their generous donation of the “Let Your Light Shine Pavilion” at Beaumont Centre Family YMCA. This donation allowed for double the number of children to attend camps and make a lifetime of memories. The pavilion was used for the first time this past summer for day camps, family nights, special Y events and community events. Fourth grader Melissa’s story is representative of hundreds of other children’s summer growth. Melissa had been struggling to make friends, but by the end of the summer, in a safe environment, she had formed solid friendships and discovered a new love for swimming, dancing and hula hooping. Because of their work to help the Y promote youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the YMCA of Central Kentucky is proud to honor Drs. Durbin, Huang and Garner on National Philanthropy Day.
